September 7, 1981: Bill Monroe got lei'd!
The Hawaiian Country Festival took place on September 7, 1981,
and featured several local acts--Melveen Leed, the Fifth String Band
(Sam's bluegrass act!), the Country Living Band (a Waimanalo country act),
as well as the Father of Bluegrass and country legend Johnny Paycheck.

Legendary bassist Tom Gray (Country Gentlemen, Seldom Scene, Carolina Star)
came to town for a weekend in July 2007 and we had a pickin' party!

In early June 2005, Caroline and Matt hosted a pickin' party
at their Wahiawa home, in honor of H. Samukawa, a guest from Japan.
Sam is president of Hanshin Bluegrass Club
and member of a bluegrass band called Usagi-san Team
back in his hometown of Sakuragaoka.
